ART MEETS ENVIRONMENT
IN OUR UNIQUE, JURIED OUTDOOR SHOW

The Metuchen Arts Council has received a grant to create a walking outdoor gallery. This gallery will be the second installment of one of our existing arts programs, ArtCycle, where we encourage art made with recycled material. For this installment, the Council will provide old traffic signs (available in various shapes and sizes) to a select group of Middlesex County artists that will be recycled into works of art in both 2D and 3D to raise awareness of the importance of local land preservation for recreation. We have all learned to greatly appreciate the outdoors during the pandemic. The selected works of art will be linked by stories that inspire an appreciation for the preservation of local natural spaces for the enjoyment of all as well as emphasizing how such preservation contributes to physical, mental, and environmental health beyond our own community. The artworks will be displayed primarily on the main trailhead entrance to the Metuchen part of Middlesex Greenway that cuts through the center of the Borough and runs 3.5 miles across three towns, Edison, Metuchen and Woodbridge.
The Art - Will be created using abandoned road signs that will be provided to the selected artists. One artist can choose any number of signs required to create their final piece. Art can be 2D or 3D. The final piece will be installed on traffic poles by Metuchen Arts Council. Please note that all the materials used to create the final piece should be outdoor friendly and enduing.

“Grant funding has been provided by the Middlesex County Board of County Commissioners through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.”
